The Surroundings
Villa Kupu Kupu is located in the North of Bali, Approximately 15 km east of the former Balinese capital Singaraja. This area has not yet been contaminated by mass tourism and here you can experience the authentic friendliness of the Balinese.
Bali is also being called the Island of the Gods; it is the only island in the he Indonesian archipelago where the Islam has not yet gotten foot a ground. Here it is Hinduism adapted to the specific Balinese customs. Everywhere there are beautiful temples; in villages, along the roadside, on hilltops; in sawa's (rice fields) and of course in every garden there is a house temple.
The island is dominated by a chain of volcanos. They have shaped the landscape, fertilised the soil and are responsible for the rainfall. The north side of Bali is mountainous. From the low mountain range that separates the east of the west side of Bali the landscape is a soft slope until one reaches the south coast.
On the fertile Bali agriculture is an important resource. The harvest of the wet rice is so abundant that the island sometimes also is called the “rice barn of Indonesia”. The sparkling sawa’s are laid down on terraces against the mountain slopes and are absolutely amongst the most beautiful of the entire archipelago.
As Bali in itself is not so big, you are a driving distance of all places of interest.
In the Guestbook, which you receive upon booking, you will find the names of the driver(s) or car rental agencies. For a reasonable amount you can go anywhere you li
ke. There are numerous possibilities for trips.
Dolphin watching in Lovina is also a nice trip. For golfers the 18 holes of the golf court in Bedegul is a must.
Visit temples and ceremonies; enjoy the deserted lava beaches; seek cooling at the waterfalls or in the jungle; explore the remains of the Dutch colonial time (especially in Singaraja one can see much of this); visit the local markets; enjoy the views of the beautiful crater lakes and volcano’s or make a tour along the most beautiful sawa’s. And of course doing nothing is also an option! It is even possible to enjoy a Balinese massage at the villa.
